I Really Want Something. Good Blogger Mojo Please!
I don't want to get into the specifics because it could sour the deal, but I'll mention a few things to get the ball rolling.
I just sent a Fed Ex package, a press kit and DVDs, to a VERY prestigious and influential casting directors office in Los Angeles. A friend of mine brought my attention to a job posting on an actors resource site, calling for plate spinners for a pilot. This is the pilot for a show that is slated to run on TBS and based upon who the star is and who's involved, it has as good a chance of being picked up as anything currently out there.
I did all the work necessary to alert them of my services. Being among the only plate spinners in the country I thought I had as fair a shot as anyone. The things would shot in early March and I still have relative freedom to take such a booking.
Naturally I never really expect to hear from these folks after I've submitted myself, but they called me at home about 5 minutes after I finished hitting the "send" button, so I got to thinking that I can get this.
Being a pilot, I've no illusions of this being anything more than a one-time thing, though there certainly is potential for me to do more. I'm not even certain that it would ever be seen by anyone other than the production folks and the folks at TBS. I'm really very hungry for this for a few reasons.
- One, it would get me some great exposure and footage, even if the pilot never sees the light of day and the show actually does.
- Next, it would legitimize all my years of effort that much more and give me a huge ego boost on top of a nice paycheck.
- Most important to me is that IF I got the gig, I could use the opportunity and the brief time in L.A. to try and goose the folks at The Tonight Show.
A couple of years back, a very satisfied client sent an e-mail to The Tonight Show demanding that they take look at my work, particularly the plate spinning act. I received an e-mail from Jolie Ancel, one of the producers/talent coordinators/people who could make that happen types and I sent out some material. Many follow-up phone calls from me yielded no replies and I assumed they weren't interested. It happens. No biggie.
Anyway, it is a whole lot "easier" to get that type of booking when you are already in L.A. and if they knew I was there in town shooting for X TV show and for X casting, it could grease the wheels that much more. While there I could do the same little bit of promoting to the Craig Ferguson show or others, maybe alert a few agents with connections of my arrival, and make a few more paying gigs in a town where I should really be more visible.
From there, I can certainly get a good amount of publicity from the appearances in the form of newspaper coverage, local TV, and certainly all the help that a vast array of Andy Land blog friends can muster. I could likely use the "clout" to get a few more paying gigs at a few more places, & make a power play at jump-starting this puppy. At the very least, if this multi-pronged attack pays off I'll have much more impressive things to have on my resume' and that will translate into better work.
However it all starts with getting this pilot. My press kit and DVDs will be on their desk at 10:30 AM tomorrow. After that...I hope for the best.
Any good mental, verbal, or virtual blogger mojo that can be sent my way would sure make me that much more confident and happy.

Good luck! Television needs more plate spinners. You could parlay this into guest spots on 24, Law & Order, Bones, Prison Break - all shows that could use a little plate spinning.

LOL!
I doubt those other shows can use a good variety act, but I can use appearances on this show to get work elsewhere so that's all good.
though a good plate-spinning plot twist would really make "24" have some ZING long before they hit hour 20.

Good luck! And as I read your blog, I realized something...
they took plate spinning off the air.
George W. Bush got elected.
COINCIDENCE??????????????
I doubt it.

Seriously, good luck! I truly hope that something very good comes of this for you.

Well, all I can do is offer a typical "Good Luck!" here. Let's hope that's enough :)

Everything I have that's crossable is crossed for you.

Thanks much for all the good thoughts. i spoke with the casting director today and it all sounds promising, which of course makes me think I'm setting myself up for quite a fall.
in any event, I REALLY would like to get in good with these folks. They cast some of the hippest and funniest films and TV programs around & I can't think that having my info on file is a good thing.

Good Luck hun! Sending you all the mojo I can muster and crossing everything possible!

Oh, sure... I can see it now... "Andy Goes to Hollywood"... gets a big head, won't talk to his blog friends anymore (no time, you know for us "little people")... the penguins will suffer...it all goes downhill from here, but hey! If it's what you really want, we'll play along. We'll keep our fingers and toes crossed, we'll say a prayer for you, we'll do the happy happy joy joy dance when you get it. Just remember us, 'kay? *sniff* (wiping tear from cheek)

I'm sorry, who are you?
